I make the worst coffee on earth! I’ve been practicing for 10 years. I can’t say for sure why it is bad, not consistently strong or weak, but it is bitter with an unpleasant taste. Sort of sharp on the mouth. It is not smooth and soft on the mouth like what I have at a coffee shop or even at a fast food drive through.

I have used nearly every brand of coffee that is offered on the market from cheap to very expensive. I have tried organic too.

I’ve had 4 coffeemakers in the last 10 years, each pot improving in quality but with consistently bad results. I now use a Delonghi 10 cup model that is only 2 months old. It uses a gold metal filter basket.

I use cold water that is filtered through my fridge filter. This is the same water that I drink & has a crisp, clean taste.

I keep my coffeepot and carafe clean & descale regularly.

I typically make 4-6 cups of coffee (6oz of water per cup). 1-2 tbsp grinds per cup, using instructions on bag of beans.

I read on this site that a ‘burr’ style of coffee grinder should be used over a ‘blade’ type to get a more consistent grind. What type of grinder is usually used in the gourmet coffee section of the grocery store where you grind your own beans?

Starbucks is way too bland, Pete’s is too strong…I’m somewhere in the middle. Too bad Coffee Bean is in SF I’m looking for something in the east bay…the closer to Berkeley the better.
Also- if organic really makes a difference, I’m all for it. If you know of any cafes, shops, or supermarkets where I can get my 1lb ground espresso whenever I run out, I’d really appreciate it Thx!

I’m looking for a good gourmet coffee of the month club that allows me to pick the coffee and the size. I dont need 2 lbs per month and dont want to pay for that much. Does anyone have any experience with a good one?

I’m looking for a new coffee maker, but finding conflicting reports on what I thought was going to be a great machine, the Cuisinart Grind and Brew. Now I don’t know what to get. I know I don’t want a press coffee maker and preferably one with an automatic setting for morning coffee when I get up at 5:00 AM. Is there a grind and brew out there that might be what I’m looking for?

The water passes through the cone full of coffee and drips into bowl.
But the coffee doesnt have time to mix with the water and add flavour. Therefore, even the colour of resulting coffee is not thick. Thats my theory.

My coffee maker has started making terrible coffee. I am using the same coffee as always and the same amount per cup but the coffee is comng out bitter and just awful. Someone told me the maker probably needs cleaning and thought you used vinegar somehow. Any ideas on how to do this with household products cuz I don’t want ot buy anything.

For christmas I plan on getting the parents a coffee maker that doesn’t break down within a year. At home we have really hard water that tends to chew up most modern coffee makers, I need one that can handle that along with having a timer/etc all those good things.

We’re not allowed to have coffee makers in our dorm. My guess as to why is because of the hot plate bottom.

Does anyone know of an alternative way to make coffee…something without an open hot plate?

I’ve already tried the instant coffee (the powdered stuff) route, and it didn’t taste that good.

Yes, I did check the McDonald’s website. They have all information except the caffeine amount.
I sent them an email yesterday and they replied saying that they don’t measure the caffeine content. I would think that was pretty important information that they should have.

Nearly every drip coffee maker has a plastic heating tank and all have plastic pipes to bring hot water to the coffee grounds. I am concerned that many people are drinking plastic along with their coffee - and most plastics are toxic. I have contacted several of the most popular manufacturers - none uses stainless steel for delivery pipes and only a few pots have a stainless steel tank. Considering how many people use these drip coffee makers, it seems a serious public health concern.
