I don’t focus on a specific diet, but I’m still seeing great results when I workout in the gym. I able to lift at least five pounds more on some exercises. I’ve gained weight. I went from 180 to 220 and people always ask me: Have you been working out? I really can’t afford a specific diet right now. I only drink a lot of "Muscle Milk". My diet usually consist of healthy serial or a pastry and coffee in the morning, beef rib roast, red beans and rice, and asparagus for dinner. Sometimes I just eat a healthy sandwich for lunch and dinner. Maybe this is all I need?

Why is it that a relatively good-looking guy generally can’t be seen having coffee with a "less-than-good-looking" girl? If he is, people will think that he is interested in the girl sexually and gossip about him. However, generally, it seems that if a relatively good-looking girl is seen chatting with a less-than-good-looking man over coffee, people generally seem to think that she is just being "democratic" or a "sympathetic friend", that she really isn’t interested in the man sexually, and they don’t gossip about her in regard to that event.

I have female friends who are relatively less-than-good-looking and I admit that I am not interested in them sexually. However, if I’m seen talking with them or chatting with them at lunch or over coffee, people seem to have the idea that we’re more than friends and I’ve been told that relatively-good-looking women lose interest in me because it "appears" that I am "settling for less" or it appears I am obviously choosing to have “bad taste."

I haven’t heard of the same kind of backlash occurring for women. Are these supposed gender-based, social expectations a reality?
@ Katie: Thank you for actually providing an answer to the question. I agree with you that these are indeed social expectations. You’re right though that I don’t have to abide by them and, of course, I can’t and won’t just neglect my friends.

@ Everyone else: actually these guys are middle-aged successful business men at a large firm that have influence over me and other people. They are professional while working, but very conservative and immature in their thinking behind closed doors. Believe it or not, there are a lot of egotistical, self-centered people in the world that think "image is everything." I’m surprised you are contending with that.

For those of you who have chosen a PTO over a PTA for your school, how do you like it?

We have a PTA. We have a great board and we work together really well. Even the ones who’ll be board members in the coming years are SMASHING!

We hate giving half our money away to the National PTA. We hate how we’re being treated by the district PTA Board.

I hate that they (the district PTA) wants me to attend meetings that have no purpose. 50% of the time there’s no information to give me. 50% of the time, the info could have been written on a 3X3 post it note. But they have gourmet breakfast tacos, Starbucks coffee and tons of fresh fruit. And for lunch they cater it to the hilt – all on money that parents give that COULD be going to enrich the school.

I don’t need to attend meaningless meetings to feel important. I’d rather be doing something at the school.

Our biggest concern is Liability insurance? We get great rates through Nation PTA. How much does it run for PTO’

I am a 16 yr old girl and I have been trying to lose weight for the past 3-4 months now. I started off at 137 lbs (5′6"). For the past 3-4 months I have been eating better and am involved in softball monday- friday. I also do an intense workout for 45 minutes twice a week with my mom if I have time. Just today I was curious about what my weight was after my hard work and I was 140 lbs! I can’t believe this and I’m starting to get really discouraged.

I really want about 10-12 lbs off by summer and I don’t know how to do it. It’s really hard for me to find time to workout frequently with softball, but I try to do something any chance I get. Also for the beginning of lent I’ve cut out all meat.

Here’s an idea of my typical eating habits I have been doing EVERY day.

Breakfast: Healthy cereal w/ fruit and juice. ( About twice a week I get a coffee from starbucks)

Lunch: vegetable, fruit, crackers and cheese, granola bar.

Dinner: Soup (bean, lentil etc) or some sort of pasta with Bread and cooked vegetable, glass of organic milk

Snack after dinner: crackers ( wheat thins) and trail mix.

- I also occasionally go out to eat with my friends like go for pizza on wednesdays or go out to eat on a weekend. I almost never eat fast food though, and this doesn’t happen every week just once in a while.

P.S. I know this is lengthy but I really need help!!! Please offer solutions to my diet and excercise routine since this is not working. Please help, this is so depressing and I just don’t want to give up.

Thank you sooo much
Oh by the way, I know the description of my weight/ height seems perfectly normal and that I don’t need to lose weight which is probably why people are telling me I’m fine and don’t worry about it. However, I can barely squeeze into a size 5 these days and have some extra baggage on my belly. So I really do need some work. I’m not just an obsessive teenager who wants to be a stick, I promise.

Ok, today I am as broke as a joke and my only alternatives are McDs and Coffee Bean for a 30 min lunch.

Despite seeing the Supersize me DVD and all those gross outakes, I went to see Ronald McDonald and the crew was scattered everywhere and I waited five whole minutes before anyone took my order (they never came).

Before organic and politically correct became everyday words of the American language, I worked at McDs in college and there was actually a system that was multifunctional and precise as far as taking the customers order etc. What the h— happened?

BTW, this was not a McD’s in Compton or South Central L.A. – this was by the Century City/Beverly Hills area and since no one ever took my order I had to make a 10 muffin stretch until dinner.

Ok, I just read the book "Skinny Bitch." so now I’m all hyped up and ready to tackle this vegan thing. I was already a fairly healthy eater. Mostly lean chicken, salmon, and whitefish type stuff, but of course ate cheese, and milk, and eggs. Anyway, today was my first Vegan Day. I did great. No cravings really. Fruit for breakfast (I passed on my normal morning coffee!), beans and veggies for lunch, and whole wheat pasta, with sun-dried tomatoes olive oil and fresh garlic, and mixed veggies for dinner along with a Morningstar PizzaBurger and half of an organic wheat bun with some organic ketchup. How did I do? I need ideas. How are some of the non-dairy cheeses? Especially the parmesan-type stuff. I really missed that on my pasta tonight. I need some support here guys. Thanks for all your help!
