What is gourmet coffee?
My teacher has this bag of gourmet coffee on his desk and when I smelled it it was absolutely wonderful. Compared to the normal coffee my parents drink, how is gourmet coffee better and what is it?

Often it’s just a marketing ploy (esp when it’s in a can).
Generally it’s considered a special type of coffee(100% Kone, not a blend) or something that is grown in relatively small areas in limited quantities due to a special microclimate.
I’ve never been impressed with what most places sell as "gourmet"; I think they just blend their own beans to try to achieve a specific flavor. I have bought some specialty green beans & they were very distinctive.
That’s why I only buy green. I know what I’m getting & have total control over the process.
It is just regular coffee, but they call it "gourmet" so they can charge more for it.
its more expensive , its normally organic or has some special thing about it.
Kona coffee from Hawaii, coffee from Jamaica, coffee from Ethiopia and Yemen are all gourmet. There are other areas that make great coffee also.
Have you ever tried organic healthy coffee? Gourmet coffee is regular coffee beans soaked in flavoring, roasted and so forth. Organic coffee has not been sprayed with pesticides while being grown. Organic coffee is not necessarily healthy coffee. Healthy coffee has been mixed with Ganoderma Lucidum mushroom which has been used in Malaysia for over 4000 years for health, longevity and a medicine. Combining it with an organic coffee makes this the healthiest coffee on the planet. To learn more check out the link below. I also have a yahoo user group with the same name which has coffee history, cartoons, jokes, polls and much more.
The smell that was so wonderful is that it is fresh roasted. There are many so called gourmet coffees that are stale and do not smell like you remember. Check out your local coffee roaster and get some beans that have been roasted THIS WEEK. It is the one flavor experience you will remember the rest of your life. I still remember the first bag of fresh beans I bought… MMMMmmmmm and now I roast my own coffee using air popcorn poppers.
