Why does iced coffee cost more than hot coffee?
At most coffee shops hot coffee is cheaper than iced coffee. Hot coffee is brewed and served with all the "fix ins" and can be brought for .40 (give or take).Iced coffee is cold coffee and tons of ice and sugar at the bottom of the cup for .50 or more. Whats up wit that? Paying more for less right?

I don’t go to specialty coffee shops (do it at home) but, if they do it the right way, iced coffee shouldn’t be made with regular coffee chilled, but with cold brewed coffee.
Good iced coffee is made by steeping the grounds in a special container over hours in a refrigerator. It makes a less acidic coffee and since it takes more time to make would cost more.
It can be made with hot coffee cooled, but that would require even more work, otherwise it would go stale by the time it cooled slowly & it will taste different.
because of the milk and ice cream they add to it
i agree you’re paying more for less.
Your paying for the cubes.
Because they put it in a fancy cup try to sell the image not the drink.
because they have to make it hot and then cold again… duhhh. Plus, its a waste of energy!!! come on, we’re trying to go green here…
It’s more expensive because you will pay it anyway. Supply and demand.
It requires more processing. Hot coffee, they make it and serve it. Iced coffee, they have to make it ahead of time and chill it down, then pour it over ice. Plus they sell a lot less iced coffee than hot coffee.
Because they use:
Ice-Cream, Milk, Coffee, Cream, ice, effort, Sprinkled chocolate on the cream and sometimes add a little chocolate stick. You are usually getting a larger amount of fluid as well. Hence serving them in huge glasses. Also coffee is just coffee and sometime milk. Not too many ingredients needed to make it.
As a Starbucks Barista for over a year now, I have wondered this question myself. My best guess is because, at Starbucks at least, we use a special coffee that is not available to the general public. "Terraza". It comes in special pre-ground packages that MUST be used immediately after opening. That is probably why it is more expensive. Hope this helps. ^_^
